Wood Buffalo Councillor Ken Ball Resigns Ward 1 Seat Effective Immediately
FORT MCMURRAY, AB.— Ward 1 Councillor Ken Ball has officially stepped down from his position on the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Council, submitting a letter of resignation to Mayor Sandy Bowman and Interim Chief Administrative Officer Jody Butz.
Ball’s resignation takes effect immediately. He was first elected in October 2021 and has served the residents of Ward 1 and the wider region for nearly four years.
“I would like to thank all of my Council colleagues for the time we’ve spent together building both professional and personal relationships while serving the great citizens of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo,” Ball said in a statement. “It has been a privilege to work alongside each of you and with members of Administration to help make this region a better place.”
Mayor Sandy Bowman thanked Ball for his contributions, praising his approach to municipal leadership.
“I want to sincerely thank Ken for his dedicated service to the region,” said Bowman. “It has been my honour to serve alongside him on Council. Ken has brought common sense, professionalism, and a commitment to this community to the Council table. I wish him nothing but the best in his next chapter.”
Under the Municipal Government Act, Ball’s resignation will be officially recorded and included as an agenda item during the next regular Council meeting on September 9, 2025.
A general municipal election, including all Council seats, is scheduled for October 20, 2025.
