FORT MCMURRAY—A tense situation unfolded in downtown Fort McMurray last night, after Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a violent break and enter in progress at an apartment building on Manning Avenue.
At approximately 7:27 p.m., police were called to 9600 Manning Avenue following reports that a suspect was attempting to break into a residence while armed with a large knife.
According to RCMP, the residents were home at the time and witnessed the suspect stabbing the knife through their door while making threats of harm.
The suspect, who is known to the victims, fled into their own nearby residence before officers arrived. Out of concern for public safety, RCMP issued a public safety alert to nearby residents.
Despite repeated commands from police, the suspect refused to exit their residence. Officers later obtained a judicially authorized warrant to enter the home. However, before entry was made, the suspect surrendered peacefully to police.
No physical injuries were reported during the incident.
A 52-year-old female resident of Fort McMurray, whose name has not been released pending the swearing of an Information, is facing multiple charges, including:
- Break and enter with intent
- Uttering threats
- Mischief under $5,000
The accused has been released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on August 13, 2025.
Wood Buffalo RCMP have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
