Pedestrian critically injured in Fort McMurray collision, RCMP urge safety
Fort McMurray, AB. — A 63-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Franklin Avenue near Father Mercredi Street on the evening of July 14.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say the collision happened around 5:46 p.m. and that the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk and crossed against a green light when he was hit. Emergency crews responded and the man was taken to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre with serious injuries. He was later flown by air ambulance to Edmonton.
Police say alcohol and speed were not factors in the collision and no charges are expected.
Investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage from the area. RCMP are reminding pedestrians to use crosswalks, obey traffic signals and stay alert. Drivers are urged to slow down and watch for pedestrians, particularly at intersections.
Anyone with information about criminal activity is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
