Pacesetters Early Learning and Childcare Centre must fix violations by October 15 or risk licence cancellation
FORT McMURRAY, AB. — A Fort McMurray daycare is under close watch by Alberta’s Ministry of Education and Childcare after being placed on a probationary licence due to multiple safety violations, including a lack of supervision and unsafe premises.
Pacesetters Early Learning and Childcare Centre must correct all deficiencies by October 15 or risk having its licence cancelled. Provincial inspectors issued the probationary status following a recent review that identified serious concerns around the safety and supervision of children in care.
“The vast majority of child-care providers and educators in Alberta are committed to the safety and well-being of the children in their care,” the Ministry said in a statement issued Tuesday. “However, when a licensed child-care program fails to meet required standards, enforcement actions such as probationary licences may be taken.”
As part of the probation order, the daycare must notify all parents of its status and provide proof of notification to the ministry. Education and Childcare officials are actively monitoring the centre to ensure compliance. Further enforcement, including licence cancellation, may follow if risks persist or are not resolved within the probationary period.
The ministry emphasizes that cancellation is considered a last resort and that the goal is for the provider to return to full compliance with Alberta’s Early Learning and Child Care Act and regulations.
