Wildfire threat prompts evacuation alert for Slave Lake region
SLAVE LAKE, Alta. — Residents in and around Slave Lake are being told to prepare for a possible evacuation as a wildfire burns northeast of the town and east of Highway 88.
An Alberta Emergency Alert was issued Monday covering the Town of Slave Lake, including properties along Devonshire Road North, as well as parts of the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River. The affected MD areas include the Hamlet of Marten Beach, Summerwood, Township Road 740, and the Gillwood Golf Course.
Officials say residents in Slave Lake should be ready to leave within eight hours if conditions worsen. Those in the impacted areas of the MD must be prepared to evacuate within four hours.
No evacuation order has been issued, but authorities are urging residents to act now to ensure they can leave quickly if needed. Residents are advised to fuel their vehicles, collect important documents and medications, and pack enough food and water to last at least three days.
