LAC LA BICHE, AB — A man is dead following a confrontation with RCMP officers at a residence in Lac La Biche on Sunday morning.
According to RCMP, officers responded to a disturbance call at approximately 11:47 a.m. When three officers arrived at the scene, a confrontation occurred, during which the man allegedly attacked one of the officers with a knife. One of the officers discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts by police, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured officer was treated in hospital and has since been released.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the police response. The RCMP has also launched an internal review to examine officer conduct, training, and policy compliance.
In a statement, the RCMP emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in such incidents, noting that it is fully cooperating with ASIRT’s independent investigation.
