Additional classroom space coming to Fort McMurray schools as enrolment grows
FORT McMURRAY, Alta. — Two Fort McMurray school divisions will receive a total of five new modular classrooms as part of a provincial effort to deal with growing student numbers.
The Alberta government says two new modular classrooms will be installed at Fort McMurray Public School Division sites and three more at Fort McMurray Catholic Schools. The units are part of a $50-million program adding 62 modular classrooms across the province for the 2025-26 school year.
The province says the prefabricated classrooms will be manufactured over the summer and installed during the school year. They are designed to ease enrolment pressures while long-term school construction projects are underway.
Student enrolment in Alberta has risen from about 735,000 in 2020-21 to nearly 826,000 this past school year, and officials say growth is expected to continue.
