CMHA Wood Buffalo seeks new board members to help shape future of local mental health service
FORT McMURRAY, AB. — The Canadian Mental Health Association’s Wood Buffalo Region is appealing for new board members to help shape the future of mental health services in the community.
The non-profit is seeking self-motivated individuals who live in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to join its volunteer Board of Directors. New members will be elected at the organization’s annual general meeting in September.
“This is an opportunity to advocate for mental health wellness and make a difference in our region,” the association said in a call for applicants.
The organization is governed by a volunteer board comprised of individuals from a range of professional backgrounds. Directors commit to a two-year term and attend nine monthly meetings each year, in addition to one planning session and the AGM. There are typically no meetings in July, August or December.
Board members are expected to provide strategic direction, participate in decision-making, raise awareness of the organization’s work, and support community fundraising efforts.
Ideal candidates will have a passion for mental health and an understanding of local needs. Experience in areas such as finance, human resources, government relations, business or healthcare is considered an asset, as is previous governance experience.
Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to contact a current board member or reach out to the executive director at director@woodbuffalo.cmha.ab.ca.
