A months-long homicide investigation in Fort McMurray has resulted in a second-degree murder charge.
On April 25, 2025, a person walking in a wooded area near Tower Road called Wood Buffalo RCMP after discovering a body. The victim was later identified as Kurtis Atkinson, a Fort McMurray resident.
Following the investigation, 34-year-old Travis Timmons of Fort McMurray was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and several other offences. Public court dockets show he is scheduled to return to court on August 25 to face the charges.
RCMP say they are not releasing further information as the case remains active.
