Starting Friday, August 22, residents of Fort McMurray will see a complete overhaul of the RMWB Transit system. All existing routes and schedules are being discontinued and replaced with a new network and a Transit On Demand service.
The new system is designed to improve travel across the community, making it easier, faster, and more convenient. These changes are based on the 2023 Transit Master Plan, which was developed with input from residents and approved by Council.
New Transit Routes and Schedules
Two core routes will provide frequent service along major roads:
- Route 1: Thickwood – Gregoire
- Route 2: Timberlea – Keyano
Seven neighbourhood routes will operate during peak hours, serving specific areas of Fort McMurray. During off-peak times and weekends, most of these routes will be replaced by Transit On Demand. The neighbourhood routes include:
- Route 3: MacDonald Island / Abasand
- Route 4: Beacon Hill / MacDonald Island
- Route 5: Timberlea / Bear Ridge
- Route 6: Thickwood / Timberlea
- Route 7: Wood Buffalo Estates
- Route 8: Eagle Ridge / Stone Creek
- Route 9: Parsons Creek
Transit On Demand
Transit On Demand is a new service available when neighbourhood routes are not running. Riders can book trips in three ways:
- Using the RMWB Transit On Demand app, available in major app stores
- Online at rmwb.ca/OnDemand
- By calling Pulse at 780-743-7000
Residents are encouraged to review the new Transit Network Map to familiarize themselves with the updated routes and On Demand Zones.
