FORT MCMURRAY— Premier Danielle Smith and the Alberta Next Panel are making a stop in Fort McMurray tonight as part of a province-wide tour aimed at gathering public input on Alberta’s future within Canada.
The event will be held at the Keyano Theatre and Arts Centre, beginning at 6:00 p.m. It’s part of a series of town halls designed to explore Alberta’s sovereignty and constitutional rights, with discussions potentially informing a referendum on separation.
The Alberta Next Panel has been traveling across the province, hearing from a wide range of voices. Some participants have expressed support for Alberta charting its own course, while others have emphasized the importance of remaining within the Canadian federation.
Premier Smith has framed the initiative as a way to address what she describes as Ottawa’s continued interference in Alberta’s economy and jurisdiction. The panel is tasked with identifying policy options that could strengthen Alberta’s autonomy, including areas such as resource development, environmental policy, and federal transfers.
You can register online at albertanextpanel.ca.
The panel will be in Lloydminster tomorrow night.
