HOLLOW WATER FIRST NATION, MB. — Manitoba RCMP are investigating a mass casualty event on a First Nation north of Winnipeg.
Eight people from Hollow Water First Nation are being taken to hospital in Winnipeg. Six patients were transported by ground ambulance and two by STARS air ambulance to the Health Sciences Centre. The hospital has declared a Code Orange Alert to mobilize staff for the emergency.
RCMP say they were called to the Anishinaabe community, about 200 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday. A heavy police presence remains in the community and officers from multiple detachments and specialized units have been deployed.
Provincial Road 304 is closed in both directions south of Black River First Nation in connection with the incident.

Today marks the three-year anniversary of the James Smith Cree Nation mass stabbing in Saskatchewan, which killed 11 people and injured 17 others in 2022.
