Alberta Industry Skills grant to train nearly 900 workers in high-demand fields
EDMONTON — Alberta’s government is investing more than $5 million in training programs to address labour shortages and build a stronger workforce in high-demand sectors.
The money comes through the Alberta Industry Skills grant, which was launched last year to fund industry-led training in aviation, construction, technology and other fast-growing fields. Four organizations will share the funding to train nearly 900 Albertans with transferable, industry-recognized skills.
The Alberta Aviation Council is receiving $1.5 million to prepare 266 people for careers in aviation and aerospace, while CWB Group is getting $1.45 million to expand certification in non-destructive weld testing. Technology Alberta is receiving more than $700,000 to deliver management skills training in the tech sector, and the Thermal Insulation Association of Canada is getting $1.5 million to train 300 Albertans as heat and frost insulators.
Jobs Minister Joseph Schow says employers asked for more support in building sector-specific training that delivers results for workers and businesses alike, and this grant program meets that need.
