FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — A new children’s program created and filmed in Fort McMurray will make its debut this weekend at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre.
SmART Kids, the brainchild of local creator Renee Manners, will premiere Sunday with all 10 episodes of its first season shown in a special theatre screening.
Manners, who performs as her character “Ms. FARTy,” developed the arts-education series after securing a grant through Telus Storyhive. Inspired by shows like Art Attack, Fred Penner’s Place and Mr. Dressup, she staged 10 live performances at the Discovery Centre last year, which were also filmed before audiences of children and parents.
Each episode runs between 20 and 25 minutes, with scheduled showings from 10 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. Sunday. Attendees must book tickets in advance and choose which episode they’d like to see.
The series, which explores a different art topic in every episode, will later be available on Telus TV On Demand and YouTube. Manners recently received funding for a second season, with filming expected to begin next month.
