2022 Regional Emergency Services Firetruck
FORT McMURRAY, AB. — Two homes have been destroyed in separate overnight fires in Fort McMurray, though no injuries were reported.
Regional fire crews were first called to a mobile home on Gregoire Crescent shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday after a stovetop fire spread from hot oil in the kitchen. The homeowner used a fire extinguisher to put it out, but firefighters were called back just before midnight when flames reignited in the ceiling. Crews battled smoke and flames from the roof until 2 a.m.
About an hour later, another 911 call reported smoke at a two-storey house on Demers Drive in Fort McMurray’s lower downtown. Responding units, including pumpers, a ladder truck, paramedics and RCMP, found flames shooting from the roof. Firefighters worked until nearly 6 a.m. to bring the blaze under control.
Both homes are considered total losses. The cause of the downtown fire remains under investigation.
