FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — A Fort McMurray man is celebrating after a big lottery win.
Frederick Malcolm won $100,000 on a $100 ULTIMATE Scratch & Win ticket purchased at the Wandering River Quick Stop on Main Street. He said he was stunned when the Lotto Spot app confirmed his prize.
“I checked it twice on the app,” Malcolm said. “I was in total shock and disbelief.”
Malcolm, who enjoys playing ULTIMATE tickets, said the prize comes as a welcome surprise and he is already making plans for the windfall.
“I’m going to pay off my truck and a few other bills,” he said. “Then I’ll put whatever is left over in the bank. It just feels great.”
The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission says Scratch & Win tickets remain a popular choice for Albertans, with multiple prize levels available across the province. Malcolm’s win is among the top prizes offered on the $100 ULTIMATE game.
Fort McMurray residents have seen a handful of other major wins in recent months. Earlier this year a local man secured $100,000 on a LOTTO MAX instant ticket, and a neighbourhood store has sold two $100,000 winners in the span of a few months. While not common, six-figure lottery prizes continue to land in the region often enough to make headlines.
