FORT McMURRAY — The Canada Post strike is disrupting mail delivery across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, delaying utility bills, property tax reminders, ambulance invoices and other municipal mail.
The municipality says residents are still responsible for paying their bills on time despite the postal interruption. Payments can be made in person at 9909 Franklin Avenue in Fort McMurray, at any rural municipal office, through financial institutions, or online at rmwb.ca/pay.
Property taxes, utility bills, bylaw tickets, ambulance invoices and general trade invoices can all be paid online by credit card. The municipality also offers a “Get Balance Owing” feature for residents to check their account balances.
Property tax reminders are mailed in August, October and December to property owners with outstanding balances after the June 30 due date. Penalties will apply to unpaid balances after November 1 and January 1.
Residents can register at taxassessment.rmwb.ca to monitor their tax accounts.
The RMWB is also warning residents about scams involving text messages requesting payment for tickets or bills. Officials say the municipality never requests payment by text and any suspicious messages should be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
For more information, residents can contact Pulse at 780-743-7000, toll-free at 1-800-973-9663, or online through the municipality’s website.
