FORT MCMURRAY— Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect after an early morning armed robbery at a downtown gas station.
Police say the incident happened around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday at the Fas Gas on Franklin Avenue. Investigators say a man wearing a balaclava entered the store, displayed a large edged weapon and demanded cash from an employee. The worker was not hurt.
The suspect fled east on Morrison Street with an undisclosed amount of money before officers arrived. RCMP say he was not located despite help from Police Dog Services.
Investigators have obtained surveillance video and are asking anyone with dashcam or security footage from the area between 5:00 and 5:30 a.m. to contact police.
The suspect is described as a Black man wearing a blue Nike sweatshirt, blue jeans and Croc shoes.
