FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is inviting residents to apply for the Community Backyard Rink program as skating season approaches.
The program allows residents to build temporary ice rinks on municipal property, encouraging families to enjoy winter activities safely. Approved applicants receive insurance coverage under the municipality’s policy, while unauthorized structures may face fines or removal.
Residents can review the online guide and apply through the E-Permitting portal at rmwb.ca/CommunityRinks, which includes details on building, maintaining, and insuring community rinks.
Applications are accepted throughout the season, but construction must be completed by Dec. 31.
