The Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association (NAABA) has announced its new board of directors following its annual general meeting on October 2.
Founded in 1993 by a small group of local Indigenous entrepreneurs, NAABA was created to strengthen opportunities for Indigenous-owned businesses within the oilsands industry. With early support from Syncrude, Suncor, and Keyano College, the organization has grown from 19 members to a nationally recognized leader in Indigenous business development.
Brandon Whitford joins the board as a new director. A member of the Goodfish Lake First Nation and Manager of Protective Clothing Supplies Ltd., Whitford brings extensive experience in business management and a passion for supporting Indigenous entrepreneurship.
Returning to the board are several familiar faces. Sandy Sanderson, founder of Askiy Mat Service Inc., continues to serve as President, bringing vision and a commitment to Indigenous business growth and education. Lloyd Antoine, President of A.P.E. Maintenance Ltd. and a member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation, remains on the board, continuing his work to empower Indigenous workers in the trades. Rounding out the leadership team, Métis entrepreneur Anthony Punko, founder of Emergency Decon Solutions Ltd., will continue his role as director, contributing his expertise in workplace safety and community leadership.
NAABA says these leaders reflect the spirit of “Entrepreneurship as Reconciliation,” advancing opportunities, building relationships, and empowering Indigenous businesses throughout the Wood Buffalo region.
