Winter Maintenance Zones, RMWB image
FORT McMURRAY, AB — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has launched its winter maintenance season, with all Winter Maintenance Zone subzones currently relaxed.
When subzones are relaxed, on-street parking restrictions are not in effect. Residents are encouraged to sign up for WMZ email alerts to stay informed about upcoming snow clearing schedules and parking requirements.
Under the program, subzones are typically activated every two weeks, meaning residents must move their vehicles off the street once per cycle on their designated day. Snowbanks higher than 15 centimetres created by plows will be cleared from driveways in active subzones.
The municipality is reminding residents to remove personal items such as basketball nets, hockey nets and curb mats from the edge of the street to avoid delays or damage during snow clearing.
Temporary no-parking signs may also appear on busier streets that are not part of the WMZ program. When those signs are posted, vehicles must be moved within 24 hours and remain off-street until the signs are removed. Vehicles not moved may be ticketed or towed.
Every residential street in Fort McMurray has an assigned subzone and designated weekday for snow maintenance. Parking restrictions apply from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the active day. Some secondary and tertiary streets are not part of the WMZ program and instead receive maintenance as needed.
Residents can find their subzone and maintenance schedule at rmwb.ca/wmz, sign up for WMZ alerts, or contact Pulse at 780-743-7000 for more information.
