EDMONTON — Chestermere-Strathmore MLA Chantelle de Jonge will travel to Washington, D.C., this week to represent Alberta in discussions on North American energy security.
De Jonge will attend the Legislative Energy Horizon Institute from Oct. 22 to 25, where she will join U.S. state legislators to complete advanced training on energy policy and infrastructure. The program, created by the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region, the University of Idaho and the U.S. Department of Energy, focuses on emerging energy sources, cross-border trade, and industry regulation.
“Attending LEHI offers a valuable opportunity to learn from experts in energy policy and collaborate with legislators shaping policy discussions,” de Jonge said in a statement. “Alberta plays a critical role as a responsible energy producer, and I look forward to deepening my understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our province.”
This marks the second part of the program for de Jonge, who attended the first session in July. Alberta officials say the trip will help strengthen ties with U.S. policymakers and promote Alberta as a stable and secure energy supplier.
