(Fort McMurray, Alberta) — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has officially declared the results of the 2025 Municipal Election. The results, confirmed at noon today, remain unchanged from the unofficial numbers released on Election Day, October 20.
Voters elected representatives for Mayor, Council, and both the Fort McMurray Public and Catholic School District Boards of Trustees. Full results are available at rmwb.ca/election.
A total of 10,506 residents cast their ballots in this year’s election, representing a 25.3% voter turnout from an estimated 41,494 eligible voters. Of those, 3,516 votes were submitted during advance polling — a slight decrease from 5,259 in 2021.
Overall voter participation was lower than the 2021 election, which saw 13,141 ballots cast and a 27.2% turnout rate. It’s worth noting that the 2025 participation rate was calculated using estimates from Elections Alberta, while the 2021 rate was based on municipal census data.
The newly elected 2025–2029 RMWB Council will be officially sworn in on Wednesday, October 29 at 6 p.m. at the SMS Equipment Place Grand Ballroom, MacDonald Island Park.
The event is open to the public and free to attend, with no registration required. Community members can also watch the proceedings live on the RMWB YouTube Channel.
