CALGARY– A man from Calgary is facing multiple charges after border officers seized a large quantity of cocaine at the Coutts port of entry in southern Alberta.
On September 25, 2025, Canada Border Services Agency officers discovered nearly 77 kilograms of cocaine during a secondary inspection of a commercial truck entering Canada from the United States. The drugs have an estimated street value of $7 million.
The driver was arrested at the scene.
The Integrated Border Enforcement Team in Alberta, which includes the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region, CBSA and Calgary Police Service, launched a criminal investigation following the seizure.
Surj Singh Salaria, 28, of Calgary, has been charged with importation of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and attempting to export prohibited goods.
He is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on October 27.
The Integrated Border Enforcement Team works to enhance border integrity and security by identifying and intercepting individuals and goods involved in criminal activity between designated ports of entry.
