FORT McMURRAY — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is calling on residents to volunteer for this year’s Snow Angels program, which helps seniors and people with mobility challenges keep their driveways and walkways clear through the winter.
The program matches volunteers with eligible residents who need assistance after snowfalls, helping them stay mobile for essential trips such as medical appointments, grocery shopping, and visiting family.
Individuals, businesses, sports teams, and community groups are invited to register as Snow Angels. Volunteers can sign up alone or as part of a team, or they can join an existing group already active in their neighbourhood.
Registered volunteers receive shovels and ice scrapers from the municipality and are asked to clear snow as soon as possible after a snowfall, ideally within 48 hours.
The RMWB says the program fosters community connection while helping residents remain safe and independent through the long northern Alberta winter. Volunteers can learn more or sign up by visiting rmwb.ca/SnowAngels.
