FORT McMURRAY — The Fort McMurray International Airport’s annual Halloween fundraiser drew more than 1,200 guests and raised $3,400 for United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo.
The sold-out Pumpkins and Planes event, held October 25 inside the airport terminal, featured trick-or-treating, games, prizes and activities hosted by terminal partners. Families also met mascots and therapy animals from the Pets and Wellness Society. Alberta Health Services was on site offering flu shots to attendees.
A sensory-friendly session early in the day provided a quieter space for guests who benefit from reduced noise and crowds. Organizers say it too sold out quickly.
Fort McMurray Airport Authority president and CEO Denean Robinson says the event has become a cherished fall tradition that brings families together while supporting the community.
United Way executive director Paula Galenzoski thanked the airport and attendees for their generosity, saying the funds will help support local programs across the region.
Event photos have been posted on YMM’s Facebook page. The airport’s next community event, YMM Photos with Santa, will take place December 6.
