Monty the Safety Bear RCMP Halloween
FORT McMURRAY—Wood Buffalo RCMP are reminding families and motorists to keep safety in mind this Halloween as children head out for trick-or-treating across the region.
Police are encouraging parents to make sure costumes are bright or include reflective tape and that children carry flashlights or glow sticks to stay visible after dark. Trick-or-treaters are also urged to travel in groups, stay on sidewalks and visit only well-lit homes.
Drivers are being asked to slow down, stay alert in residential areas and watch for children who may cross streets unexpectedly. Officers also remind motorists to avoid distractions while driving during peak trick-or-treating hours.
Chief Superintendent Mark Hancock, officer in charge of the Wood Buffalo detachment, said RCMP want everyone to have a fun and safe Halloween and are asking drivers to take extra care throughout the evening.
