FORT McMURRAY — RCMP say a significant police presence in Conklin this morning was connected to an ongoing theft investigation.
An alert was issued around 8 a.m. warning residents of heavy police activity in the hamlet, located in the southern part of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Several RCMP members were called in to assist with the investigation.
Police say the situation has since stabilized, the number of officers in the area has been reduced and the alert was lifted shortly after noon.
A spokesperson says no further details are being released while the investigation continues.
