Edmonton — The United Conservative Party will welcome roughly 4,000 members to Edmonton later this month for its 2025 annual general meeting, one of the largest political conventions ever held in Canada.
The AGM runs Nov. 28 and 29 at the Edmonton Expo Centre, with campaign and constituency association training scheduled for Nov. 30. As of the Oct. 31 early bird deadline, 3,672 members were registered, and the party says more are signing up ahead of the event.
Members will debate policy, vote on governance resolutions and elect new members to the provincial board. Positions up for election include president, secretary, vice-president of communications, vice-president of fundraising and regional directors for Edmonton, North, South, Calgary and Central. Local MLAs Brian Jean and Tany Yao are expected to attend along with delegates from Fort McMurray and across northern Alberta.
Premier Danielle Smith will deliver the keynote address at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29. Her speech will be livestreamed on the party’s YouTube channel. A bearpit session with Smith and cabinet ministers is planned for Friday afternoon.
Members had until Nov. 7 to renew their membership to vote or take part in debates. Non-members may attend as observers but cannot vote or speak on resolutions.
The draft schedule begins Friday with issue panels at 2 p.m., candidate speeches at 2:45 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 4 p.m. Governance voting runs from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by hospitality suites. Voting for board elections runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, with policy debate planned for the afternoon. Results of board and youth elections will be announced later in the day.
Campaign and constituency association training takes place Sunday morning. The party says updates on policy and governance resolutions are being emailed to members ahead of the convention.
