FORT McMURRAY — Keyano College will host a new exhibition next month that invites the community to consider how accessibility shapes daily life in Wood Buffalo.
Art for Social Change runs Dec. 3 to 10 and features installations by seven multidisciplinary artists. The project was developed with local social profit organizations and asks visitors to reflect on barriers such as inaccessible spaces, unequal access to programs and services, and assumptions that limit full participation in the community.
The exhibition opens on the International Day for Persons with Disabilities and continues until International Human Rights Day. Works will be displayed throughout the hallways of Keyano Theatre and the Clearwater Campus.
An information table and staffed exhibits will operate from 3 to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from noon to 8 p.m. on weekends. Free guided tours begin daily at 7 p.m. and last up to two hours, while self-guided tours are available during regular campus hours. Organizers note the exhibition is designed to include people of all abilities, and some barriers are intentionally built into the experience.
The program is a collaboration between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Keyano College, the Public Art Committee and the Regional Advisory Committee on Inclusion, Diversity and Equity.
