FORT McMURRAY — Keyano College has joined a new national consortium aimed at improving AI skills among post-secondary students across Canada.
The initiative, called the AI Workforce Readiness program, is led by the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute and supported by Google.org. More than 30 colleges and universities are participating, representing over 500,000 students. The program is expected to reach about 125,000 learners each year.
Keyano students and instructors will receive access to open-source curriculum materials designed to integrate artificial intelligence into existing coursework. The college says the goal is to ensure graduates develop foundational AI knowledge that is becoming essential across many industries.
Interim president and CEO Sandra Efu said joining the consortium reflects Keyano’s commitment to preparing students for a rapidly evolving job market. Amii CEO Cam Linke said the program is intended to make AI education more accessible nationwide.
The partnership will bring new case studies, real-world applications and AI-focused assessments into Keyano’s programs, which include trades, energy, business, health, arts, sciences and more.
Keyano College serves the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo through its Clearwater Campus and Suncor Energy Industrial Centre in Fort McMurray.
