FORT McMURRAY — The Fort McMurray Airport Authority has been recognized with a new accreditation that highlights its work to build a stronger and more resilient aviation workforce.
Airports Council International North America announced earlier this month that Fort McMurray International Airport achieved Level 1 in the Airport Workforce Development Accreditation program. The award was presented during the ACI North America and ACI World annual general assembly in Toronto.
The accreditation is part of a five tier framework launched this year to help airports strengthen training, employee development, community outreach and long term workforce planning. Level 1 recognizes airports that have established foundational workforce practices and raised awareness about their role in the community.
Denean Robinson, president and CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority, accepted the award on stage among industry colleagues. She said the recognition reflects the airport’s commitment to growing a skilled and engaged team that supports both the region’s aviation sector and the wider Wood Buffalo community.
The program honoured 12 organizations in its first year, including airports of all sizes across Canada and the United States. Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport was the first to reach Level 5, the highest tier.
