FORT McMURRAY — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is asking residents and businesses to weigh in on how portable signs are regulated across the region.
Planning and Development Services is reviewing the rules after a council motion earlier this year. Feedback from residents, business owners and sign companies may help shape updates to the sign section of the new Land Use Bylaw, which comes into effect Jan. 1.
A survey is open until Dec. 5 on the municipality’s website.
Staff will also hold three in-person pop-up sessions. They will be at the Jubilee Centre lobby on Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon, at MacDonald Island Park the same day from 2 to 4 p.m., and at Peter Pond Mall on Nov. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Portable signs are mounted on frames or stands and can be moved easily, making them common for short-term advertising.
Current rules require at least 30 metres between portable signs. They can stay on a property for up to 180 consecutive days and must then be removed for 180 days.
A full list of regulations is available online. Questions can be directed to Pulse at 780-743-7000 or rmwb.ca/pulse.
