FORT McMURRAY — Covenant Health is inviting Indigenous community members and partners to a health engagement session on Monday as part of its ongoing work toward reconciliation and improved health equity.
The session will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nikinan Community Centre and is one of several planned across Alberta. Covenant Health says the meetings are intended to encourage open dialogue, storytelling and relationship building with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. The organization describes the sessions as a key step in shaping its Indigenous health strategy.
Adam North Peigan, Covenant Health’s lead for Indigenous health development and community engagement, says the goal is to create a safe space where people can share their experiences within the health system. He says the organization is grateful for the welcome from the local community and committed to listening closely as it moves forward.
Covenant Health says Elders, knowledge keepers, leaders and community members are encouraged to take part. Each session will include updates on the strategy’s development along with lunch and door prizes.
People who cannot attend in person can still offer input through an online engagement form. Covenant Health says the work reflects its strategic priority to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities in both rural and urban areas and to make meaningful progress toward reconciliation in health care through practical action and community collaboration.
