OTTAWA — The Conservative Party of Canada is investigating a data breach that exposed the confidential financial records of fifteen of its MPs. The leaked documents include mortgage and loan histories, outstanding debts and records showing whether payments were made on time.
The information was circulated to party insiders by someone using the alias “Rory McTory,” a name the party has previously used for internal testing. Copies of the material, originally submitted during nomination vetting, were later obtained by media outlets.
The affected MPs represent ridings across the country, and most were first elected in April. Among them are Jamil Jivani and Billy Morin, the former chief of the Enoch Cree Nation.
The party has reported the breach to the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and the RCMP and says its investigation is ongoing. Previous Conservative databases have been compromised in earlier incidents, including during the 2020 leadership race and in a 2011 website breach.
