FORT MCMURRAY–Wood Buffalo RCMP have charged three people following an investigation into illegal cigarette sales in Fort McMurray.
On November 26, officers with the RCMP Drug Section executed a search warrant at a business on Macalpine Crescent in the Gregoire area. The warrant was the result of an investigation that began in September.
During the search, police seized four cartons and nine packs of unstamped cigarettes.
A 45-year-old man from Fort McMurray was issued a provincial violation ticket under the Tobacco Tax Act for possessing fewer than 1,000 cigarettes. The ticket carries a voluntary fine of $1,200 or the option to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on January 9, 2026.
Two women, ages 44 and 42, also from Fort McMurray, were issued tickets under the same legislation for possessing fewer than 400 cigarettes. Each ticket includes a voluntary fine of $300 or a court date on January 23, 2026.
RCMP say the investigation is part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale of illegal tobacco products in the region.
