FORT McMURRAY — Wood Buffalo RCMP say a month-long effort by the detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit led to dozens of arrests, several warrant executions and the recovery of stolen property.
Police say the specialized unit focuses on prolific offenders and property crime by tracking local crime trends and targeting individuals who cause the greatest harm in the region.
Throughout November, officers arrested 32 people wanted on outstanding warrants. The unit also assisted with two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants, executed three Feeney warrants to enter homes for arrests, recovered three stolen vehicles and seized three firearms that police say were altered or used dangerously.
Staff Sgt. Ryan Adlam, the acting investigative services officer for Wood Buffalo RCMP, said the results show the value of community cooperation and the impact local residents have when they share information with police.
RCMP are encouraging people to report suspicious or criminal activity. Emergencies should be reported through 911. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by phone, online or through the P3 Tips mobile app.
