EDMONTON — Alberta’s labour numbers are solid as 2025 comes to a close, with the province posting another month of national job growth leadership.
The latest figures show Alberta added 28,700 jobs in November, a total the province says represents more than half of all new positions created across Canada. Jobs Minister Joseph Schow said the province has now recorded three consecutive months of strong growth and has added more than 105,000 jobs since November 2024.
Schow said youth unemployment remains a challenge nationwide, including in Alberta, which continues to experience high levels of immigration and interprovincial migration. The province’s youth unemployment rate sits at 13.5 per cent, the fifth lowest in Canada, while overall unemployment is roughly in line with the national rate.
He pointed to the new Alberta Youth Employment Incentive and renewed calls for Ottawa to curb immigration among entry-level workers as part of the province’s strategy to support young people entering the workforce.
Schow said the government expects Alberta’s momentum to carry into 2026 as the province attracts new investment. He said Alberta remains one of the most affordable places to live in Canada and continues to offer strong job prospects despite economic pressures.
