On Dec. 6, 2025, officers of the Wood Buffalo RCMP conduct checkstop
FORT McMURRAY — Wood Buffalo RCMP launched their annual holiday season impaired driving campaign with multiple checkstops across the city on Dec. 6 as part of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
Municipal Traffic Services officers, working with Alberta RCMP Provincial Traffic Services and Alberta Sheriffs, conducted mandatory alcohol screenings on more than 300 motorists. Police say all drivers complied and none were found to be impaired.
Officers issued 19 provincial violation tickets and 13 traffic warnings during the evening.
Sgt. Jan Indenbosch of Wood Buffalo Municipal Traffic Services urged people to enjoy the holidays safely and to plan ahead to avoid impaired driving. He said the goal is to make sure everyone gets home safely during the Christmas season.
RCMP say impaired driving is preventable and that responsible choices can reduce tragedies on local roads. The national enforcement day also marked the start of enhanced holiday-season patrols. Police will continue to run checkstops throughout December to deter impaired driving and remove unsafe drivers from the road.
