FORT McMURRAY — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is thanking residents, volunteers and sponsors after a last minute pivot turned this year’s Santa Claus Parade into a drive-thru event due to extreme cold.
The municipality says organizers, contractors and community partners worked quickly to redesign the parade when dangerous temperatures were forecast. Staff and volunteers set up a drive-thru route so families could still take part in Council’s Starry Night and see the decorated floats from their vehicles.
Sponsors included A-1 Portables, AlumaSafway, Culligan, Headwater Transportation, Tridon Communications and United Rentals.
Residents can continue to vote for their favourite floats until midnight. Categories include Best in Social Service, Best in Commercial, Best in Youth and Honourable Mention. Voting is available at participate.rmwb.ca/parade.
