EDMONTON — A 32-year-old teacher at Hilwie Hamdon School in northwest Edmonton has been charged with several child sexual offences following an investigation by Alberta’s Internet Child Exploitation unit.
Dylan Rosychuk was arrested on Dec. 5 with assistance from Edmonton police. He is charged with child luring, making sexually explicit material available to a child and making, possessing and transmitting child sexual abuse material.
ALERT says the charges relate to one of his students at the kindergarten to Grade 9 school. Investigators allege Rosychuk engaged in sexually explicit online conversations with the student over a period of two years. The case involves online offences and investigators say it is not yet known if any other students may have been affected.
ICE opened its investigation in early December and is releasing the information due to the accused’s position of trust. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Rosychuk was released on court-imposed conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19.
ALERT, which includes the ICE unit, is funded by the Alberta government and brings together specialized law enforcement teams to address serious and organized crime.
