Two Junior A hockey players were taken to hospital after a team bus crashed on a northern Alberta highway Friday morning.
RCMP say the coach bus carrying members of the Athabasca Rivermen slid off Highway 2 around 8 a.m. due to snowy and icy conditions. The bus entered the ditch and struck trees while travelling south to Crowsnest Pass for weekend games.
Sixteen people were on board at the time. Police say the two hospitalized teens suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while others were treated at the scene for minor issues.
Temperatures at the time were near –37°C. RCMP say speed is not believed to be a factor, noting the driver appeared to be travelling for conditions.
