FORT McMURRAY — Families in Fort McMurray will have a full slate of activities to choose from as MacDonald Island Park hosts Kraze, a family focused New Year’s Eve celebration running Dec. 31 from noon to 4:30 p.m., capped off with an evening fireworks show.
The free event takes over much of MacDonald Island Park with indoor and outdoor programming designed for all ages. Activities include bouncy castles, obstacle courses, craft stations, a kids play zone, face painting, photo booths and roaming mascots throughout the afternoon.
Sports and recreation options run continuously, with drop-in badminton and pickleball, skating, wagon rides and a speed climb. Weather permitting, families can enjoy outdoor skating trails, an outdoor family skate and wagon rides. A sensory-friendly skate and sensory-friendly activities at the Wood Buffalo Regional Library are also scheduled to ensure accessible options for attendees.
Set-time activities run from 1 to 4 p.m., including the Wipeout inflatable challenge and learn-to-curl sessions, with participants asked to bring their own helmets and indoor sneakers for curling.
Live entertainment anchors the afternoon on the main stage in CNOOC Field House 1, with a character magician duo performing at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., and a neon glow dance show at 2 p.m. The New Year’s Eve countdown spectacular and mascot dance party close out the indoor program between 4 and 4:30 p.m.
Fireworks are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with organizers recommending the MacDonald Island Park parking lot facing Miskanaw Golf Club as the best viewing location.
The event is free to attend and is designed as a daytime alternative to late-night celebrations, giving families a chance to ring in the New Year together.
