FORT MCMURRAY — A downtown Fort McMurray robbery involving what police later determined was a replica firearm ended quickly on Dec. 24, with both suspects arrested minutes later without incident.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers were called around 5:53 p.m. after a victim reported being approached by two suspects who pointed what appeared to be a firearm and demanded a cellphone. The victim complied, and the suspects fled on foot.
Police say detailed descriptions were immediately provided and officers located both suspects nearby shortly afterward. A replica firearm was found in close proximity at the time of the arrests. The victim was not physically injured.
Rayno Castor-Macdonald, 26, of Fort McMurray, faces multiple charges including robbery with a firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Castor-Macdonald was remanded into custody following a judicial interim hearing and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Jan. 5, 2026.
Cynthia Herman, 35, also of Fort McMurray, is charged with robbery with a firearm. She was released after a judicial interim hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 21, 2026.
