Winter Maintenance Zones, RMWB image
FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — Snow removal operations are scheduled to begin this week in parts of Fort McMurray, with on street parking restrictions coming into effect in designated neighbourhoods.
Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says Winter Maintenance Subzones 3 and 4 will be active from Jan. 5 to Jan. 9, with Subzones 1 and 2 expected to follow from Jan. 12 to Jan. 16.
During an active subzone day, on street parking is prohibited from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to allow crews to remove accumulated snow. Officials note snow removal differs from routine clearing, as crews must load snow into haul trucks and transport it to disposal sites.
Residents are reminded to shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways onto their own yards or nearby green spaces and not onto roadways. Sidewalks and driveways must be cleared within 48 hours of a snowfall.
The municipality encourages residents to check posted signage, use the Find Your Zone tool, or visit rmwb.ca/WMZ for updates. Residents can also contact Pulse at 780 743 7000 for more information.
