FORT MCMURRAY—A single-storey house in downtown Fort McMurray was seriously damaged by fire Sunday afternoon, with no injuries reported.
Firefighters were called to a home on MacIver Street around 2 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from the building. Several units responded, including two pumper crews, a heavy rescue unit, a ladder truck and EMS paramedics.
Crews initially entered the structure to conduct a search and attack the fire from inside. Firefighters later shifted to a defensive response after flames breached the main floor.
The fire was contained to the house, and crews were able to prevent damage to neighbouring structures. The building sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage, and crews remained on scene for several hours.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire. Regional Emergency Services fire investigators are working to determine the cause.
