EDMONTON — Alberta RCMP issued nearly 1,000 tickets during enhanced traffic enforcement over the Christmas holidays, while police also investigated six fatal collisions that claimed seven lives.
RCMP say officers issued 988 tickets across the province between Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, 2025, as part of holiday traffic safety initiatives.
Police laid 242 speeding tickets, along with 31 tickets for distracted driving and 21 for seatbelt violations.
During the same period, 121 drivers were removed from the road for impairment by alcohol or drugs. That total included 80 Immediate Roadside Sanction FAILs and 23 WARNs.
RCMP also reported 99 non-fatal injury collisions during the enforcement period. Six fatal collisions resulted in seven deaths.
“We are never happy to report fatal motor vehicle collisions,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic. “Everyone should have been able to make it home safely for the holidays.”
Turnbull urged motorists to watch out for one another and to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
Alberta RCMP say traffic safety information and enforcement updates are shared through their social media channels.
