FORT MCMURRAY — Skiers and snowboarders heading to Vista Ridge will once again be able to leave the car at home, with Route 77 returning to service the hill on Saturdays through the end of March.
The seasonal bus route reopened Saturday and is scheduled to run every Saturday while the hill remains open. The service offers a transit option for riders travelling from several parts of the city, easing parking pressure at the hill and providing an alternative to winter driving.
Riders can board Route 77 at the Thickwood Terminal, the Timberlea Terminal, or downtown at the old terminal beside the Jubilee building. Transit officials remind passengers that all ski and snowboard gear must be properly bagged before boarding.
According to the published schedule, the first trip departs the Timberlea Terminal at 9:05 a.m., followed by Thickwood at 9:15 a.m. and downtown at 9:30 a.m., arriving at Vista Ridge at 10 a.m. The final return trip leaves the hill at 8:15 p.m., reaching downtown at 8:28 p.m., Timberlea at 8:51 p.m. and Thickwood at 9:01 p.m.
A mid-day run is also scheduled, departing Timberlea at 1:25 p.m. and arriving at Vista Ridge at 2:20 p.m., with a return leaving the hill at 2:32 p.m.
City officials say the route is designed to support recreational access during the winter season while encouraging the use of public transit.
