FORT McMURRAY, AB — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has released its proposed 2026 municipal budget, totaling $661 million.
According to the municipality, the proposed budget focuses on maintaining core services, managing municipal assets, strengthening partnerships, and supporting long-term growth across the region.
The proposed budget includes $513 million for operations and $148 million transferred to reserves. Administration is also proposing a $128 million capital budget, funded through $23 million in grants and $105 million from the Capital Infrastructure Reserve. All figures remain subject to change as Council deliberates.
Chief Financial Officer Laurie Farquharson says the budget aims to balance stability with targeted investment.
Council will begin reviewing the proposed budget during a series of meetings starting February 3, 2026.
