FORT MCMURRAY — Grant funding aimed at revitalizing downtown Fort McMurray has reached a $7 million investment milestone, with more funding still available for businesses and property owners planning improvement projects.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo said $7 million had been invested through the Downtown Revitalization Incentives Program as of December 2025. The program was launched in 2020 to support upgrades and improvements in the downtown core.
Municipal officials said more than 200 downtown projects have received funding since the program began. Another 58 projects are currently underway, with several more receiving conditional approval.
Now in its third phase, the program provides grants to help businesses, commercial property owners and community organizations improve building exteriors and interiors, as well as other features intended to strengthen and modernize the downtown area.
The municipality said $1.3 million in grant funding remains available under Phase 3 of the program, which is scheduled to run until May 31, 2026, or until funds are fully allocated.
The program includes four grant streams, along with additional funding options focused on accessibility improvements and crime prevention measures. Municipal officials said those components are intended to support safer and more inclusive downtown spaces.
The municipality is encouraging eligible applicants to review program guidelines and confirm eligibility before submitting an application, noting that interest in the program remains strong as downtown revitalization efforts continue.
